History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was originally founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. In the year 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years.
