Over the last decades, the machine has significantly grown and the designs have changed so there are numerous modern designs and various trucks to meet each particular application. Loads are capable of lifting and reaching to greater heights than ever before.

Lift truck models are offered in a large variety of different power types including: gasoline, diesel, electric, diesel and LP or liquid propane units. The load capacities of these models vary greatly since there are numerous manufacturers that design and build them. For instance, some units could reach a height of more than 10,000 kg or more than 3000.

The frame of the truck is the base of the power source and is the place where the other features are attached. These various features consist of mast and axles, the counterweight and an overhead guard. On the rear side there is a counterweight connected to the truck. This counterweight counterbalances the cargo which is being lifted in order to keep the equipment stable.

The operator sits inside a cab and uses the controls to dictate the machine's movements. The overhead is another feature, that is a metal roof in order to protect the operator from falling objects. Hydraulic tilt cylinders mounted to the mast and the frame. These tilts turn the mast in order to engage the load. The mast is a vertical assembly that lowers and raises the cargo with the interlocking rails to provide lateral stability.

There are many businesses and warehouses in the manufacturing fields which utilize lift trucks for transportation and lifting on a daily basis. Today, there are many different new and second-hand lift trucks available in the market at competitive prices. Those who rely on occasional lifting and transportation could use rental lift trucks since they are available also.
