The company Potain was established in La Clayette, France in 1928. Ever since that time, the company has grown into a leading producer of cranes. The company is responsible for more than 100,000 cranes in operation all-around the world. Currently, the company makes more than 60 models from different production facilities in France, China, Italy, Portugal and Germany. The business represents numerous different product ranges utilized for a variety of applications. These machines are sold through a global Manitowoc dealer network.



The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest ones in the Potain range. These cranes vary from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes which are larger and higher. These cranes vary from 7.98 to 64 tons. Additionally, these are the biggest special application cranes that are custom-designed. These models provide a reach capacity of 160 tons.



The company's top innovations include LLC series of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The company's growing reputation has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are normally found on traditional construction sites, power stations, bridge building projects, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.



Two of Manitowac's biggest facilities are based in the United States. Their manufacturing facility is based in Wisconsin. In this state, both crawler cranes and the tower crane parts are made in the state of Pennsylvania inside the Shady Grove plant. Here both mobile cranes and boom trucks are built. Regional offices are situated in Mexico and in Brazil.
