Electric Forklift versus Diesel Forklift

Forklifts could function one of two ways, either by internal combustion (IC) motor or by electric motor. Electric forklifts are suitable for use indoors and cost less to utilize. IC equipment are best for outdoor use and are quicker to refuel.

Electric Forklifts

For indoor use, where air quality is a concern, the electric forklift is the suitable machinery you could use since it produces no exhaust. Electric forklifts are clean and are not noisy. They are 20 - 40 percent more expensive to buy compared to IC lifts, but the per-hour operating cost of electric models is lower. The disadvantage is that batteries need 16 hours to charge and cool down, so buying an extra set of batteries is suggested. Electric lifts are not limited for use indoors, but when utilized outdoors they should be utilized carefully.

Diesel Forklifts

Internal Combustion forklifts have a higher carrying capacity than electric forklifts and are commonly used for outdoor applications. If your fleet normally runs on one kind of fuel, it might be a good idea to buy an IC unit that uses the same fuel. They could function on gas, propane or diesel. Diesel is the least expensive. IC forklifts have the advantage of being cheaper to operate and easy to refuel; nonetheless, their operating cost on a per hour basis is higher. Most IC models cannot be used indoors.

Other Kinds of Forklifts

In warehouses where there are tight spaces, the narrow aisle electric forklift is most suitable. They are constructed to pick up loads without having to position the lift facing the stacks. Rough terrain diesel forklifts have huge tires for running on difficult surfaces.
