Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety

Around 200 deaths each year are caused by accidents that involve lift trucks, or forklifts. Correct maintenance and inspection of forklift tires could really help to reduce the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Inspection

Before the start of each shift, the tires on the lift truck must be checked for signs of damage and wear. The air pressure in the tires has to be checked to make certain that the pressure is not too low. Having a tire pressure that is low could make the equipment prone to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Kinds of Tires

The choice of tire type should be based on the type of surface on which the lift truck would be used. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are best. For surfaces which are smooth, tires are normally smaller. Bigger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires can grip well on surfaces that are rough because they have rubber tread and are air-filled.

Other factors

Any lift truck utilized on a continual basis should be inspected at the completion of each shift, based on OSHA guidelines. The tires should be inspected again for any sign of damage, such as wear or cuts.

Forklift Safety

Forklift safety is vital for any employee or employer using a forklift because lift truck mishaps could be serious causing personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents can cost you and your company money if the lift truck or the merchandise are damaged during a mishap. Be sure you really know a lot about issues involved in lift truck safety.
